"ad tail", the extra few seconds of another commercial in a youtube upload

or, a neologism that describes a weird Picasso commercial

so, if you see some uploads of older commercials on youtube, chances are you will see an additional 2 seconds of another commercial before the video actually ends. for example, this commercial for Invest Japan...

the video ends with a few seconds of another commercial with a trucker finding random bits of women's clothing on the road (no idea what that's supposed to be selling, but i presume women's clothing), which confused a number of commentators:

What was the thing with the panty at the car window?!

so why does this happen? i think the people who were uploading ads on youtube back then didn't care much to properly cut out the tailing bit of another commercial. perhaps they were recording directly from the tape, perhaps their video editor didn't allow them to be precise (or they just didn't use a video editor). nowadays, the people who upload ads to youtube tend to dedicate their accounts to it, and are a bit more professional in editing it. or occasionally they add their own end cards to the youtube reminding you to subscribe. sometimes they do show up, but only for like a frame or so, so at least the typical commercial uploader on youtube is a bit better at cutting those things out.

anyways, i figure that there should be a word for this, and after a good few minutes of thinking, my best option is "ad tail".

Ad tail

A brief snippet of a commercial that appears at the end (or rarely, the beginning) of another commercial that has been uploaded to an online video sharing platform. The snippet is attached to the commercial's upload, like a tail

an inverse of this could be the tape switch phenomenon mentioned on TVTropes.

a noticeable example of an ad tail: Disjointed Piccaso's Face

a few years ago on a japanese image board, someone asked about a mysterious ad tail on a upload of a well known 80s commercial. needless to say, nobody even cared about the commercial that was the focus of the upload:

I'm curious about the CM (?) with the messy face that appears briefly at the end of this video. Does anyone know what it is?

the creepy disjointed face was quickly revealed to have been pablo picasso, but not much else was known. this ad tail was the focus of a years long search by japanese netizens to discover its origins, and of course there were many theories. the most probable theory, which wound up being truth, was that it was an ad for a picasso exhibition:

even watching it in full, i gotta say, it's still pretty creepy, but it makes a lot more sense now. at least by japanese commercial standards.
